I’m so excited to relaunch my membership here on Substack. If you want to get straight to it, everything is on my About Me post. But if you want to stay for the back story, keep reading.
About Me
If you’re new around here, I’m Yvette, an artist, bookbinder and business owner and I’ve been working professionally for over 20 years. In that time I’ve worked with thousands of people, sharing my art practice, teaching, curating and mentoring and exhibiting in the UK and beyond.

I’ve been teaching bookbinding and origami online for the past 5 years and there are currently over 2300 people enrolled in my school. It’s been an amazing journey and I’m ready to take it to the next step and widen my offer to a membership programme that has a focus on developing our creativity through the heritage of world cultures.
You can join today for an early bird price (full price starts on 2nd April).
Here’s what’s happening in the membership:
6 Bookbinding Tutorials per year
Essays on the bookbinding origin stories from the tutorial of that month
Artist Books essays: A look at artists who make books or use books in their work (contact me if you’d like to be featured).
On the months in between the tutorial months, a set creative challenge inspired by the book learned on the previous month.
Monthly ‘The Story of Business’ essay on how I run my successful, creative business over the past 20 years and how you can grow yours!
Access to the subscriber community to share your books and inspire others.
We start on 2nd April 2025, but if you join before then, I’m sharing an extra project this Sunday. We’ll be making a Mini Chinese thread book - which is my top selling course. If you want the full project with lifetime access you can purchase it with a kit here.
But you don’t want to do that! You want to join my membership. Why? Let me break it down…
What’s so different about this membership and the courses that are on your website?
Great question! On my website you can buy courses and have them forever, yay! On Substack I’ll be sharing both tutorials and extra creative prompts and challenges, like visual journalling, collage, using watercolours and textile techniques, that don’t exist on the website.
Why are you doing it here and not on the website?
I can’t run a blog on the website with the same level of engagement I can here, and I want to have the opportunity to write about the heritage of bookbinding as part of my own practice. I also want to grow an engaged community who want to make things too! It’s lonely being an artist sometimes.
What kind of projects can I expect to see?
We will learn starter bookbinding projects first and delve into some more complex projects later once we have the bare bones of bookbinding under our belts.
Amazing! What about the price?
The membership is an affordable way to learn bookbinding, learn about world cultures. If you purchase before 2nd April prices start from £3.50 per month.
I’m not sure I have the time to learn a new book and do the creative prompts
Oh me too! That’s why I’m staggering the projects. So in month 1 you’ll learn the book structure and in month 2 we will work on the creative prompts. There’s 6 structures to learn (from 6 different cultures).
What if I miss a month?
No problem, all projects will be archived and available to you as a paying member.
Don’t you need specialist tools to learn bookbinding?
I’ve got you covered. You can buy a starter bookbinding kit here
What’s ’The Story of Business’ all about?
As a paying member I’m going to let you into all the behind the scenes happenings of running my business, including how much money I earn each month. If you’re curious about running an online store, a bricks and mortars store, how to run a workshop, how to find work and how to go about exhibiting your artwork then you’ll want to read these posts. I’m going super juicy!
But Why?
I want you to succeed! That’s it. And if I can do it (I’m a single mum, from a low income benefits background, mixed race too, which has definitely created barriers, non mixed race folk would not have faced) then you can bloody do it too! I want you to win!
Do you want to win?
Your work is absolutely amazing 😍 I've been wanting to learn bookbinding for a while now and am very very tempted to join! 😍
Hello, I have a question.
When you were an "advanced beginner" starting to get more and more completed projects. What did you with all this pile of completed projects?
